2005 NKBA DESIGN COMPETITION

Sarasota kitchen 2005 NKBA DESIGN COMPETITION LARGE KITCHEN The design challenges from a layout point of view were working within the existing footprint and using the existing hood and island and stainless steel counter top. The sinks, hood and cooktop placement were firmly established so my approach was to get the desk area out of the middle of the kitchen and move the refrigerator closer to the sinks. By switching these two areas, the desk is now adjacent to the entry from the garage and allows for a message area as you enter the house. The addition of some floating…

Reader’s Choice AWARDS

Sarasota Cabinet Reader’s Choice AWARDS Every year The Sarasota Herald Tribune invites its readers to express their opinions and vote for the local businesses they think are the best. To ensure that the vot- ing is fair and accurate, the Tribune includes one ballot in each of its home delivered papers and only those that are home delivered. The results are tabulated by an independent agency. In 2006 we were voted first place in the “cabinet company” category. For us, the most impressive thing is that this is completely voluntary. Our clients were loyal enough and felt strongly enough to take…

Trends WHAT’S HOT, WHAT’S NOT

Sarasota Cabinet Trends WHAT’S HOT, WHAT’S NOT WOOD SPECIES: Exotic veneers continue to be popular in kitchen and bath designs. Rift cut woods of all species have come on very strong —- White Oak, Maple, Cherry and Walnut are the most popular of the rift cuts. We expect to see an increased demand for rift cut Red Oak as this is what has been popular in Europe recently and popular European cabinetry designs come across the Atlantic within about a year or two. Flat cut Maple is still the most popular of all species but clients are beginning to look…

Trends WHAT’S HOT / WHAT’S NOT

Sarasota Kitchen Trends WHAT’S HOT / WHAT’S NOT As with any industry, the popularity of materials and styles grows and wanes over time. As we publish this newsletter, here’s what’s hot and what’s not: WOOD SPECIES Exotic veneers are still very popular in kitchen and bath designs. We are doing a lot of work with Rift-Cut White Oak, Figured Maple and Quilted Maple. We continue to see an increase in Cherry, and while Flat Cut Maple is still quite strong, clients are beginning to look for something a bit different. A good alternative to Maple is Alder. Alder’s coloring is…

Sarasota Bathroom Remodelation Project Spotlight: The Haycock Residence

Superior space planning is as important a component of quality interior design as any. First get the space to function well, then make it beautiful. That’s what Candis Stott of Designed Interiors and Planning, Inc. did when called upon by Lyn and Mike Haycock. The Haycocks wanted to do a Sarasota bathroom remodelation located on the top floor of a 3-story home built in 1994. The bathroom needed a face-lift and more. The Haycocks wanted more closet space, a larger shower, a Jacuzzi, a space for linens, and a neat, clean contemporary design. When visiting the ASID Designer Showcase house,…

Project Spotlight – A Sarasota Kitchen and Bathroom Remodelation Story

Having vacationed with family on Longboat Key for over a decade, Wendy and Ross took a seasonal rental in the winter of 2006 to escape the northern winter. They loved the location directly on the beach, lush landscaping and fabulous sunsets. Curiosity led them to “just look” at an available unit, and before you know it, the wheels were turning and a deal was done- well, almost. While the location and view are spectacular, the condo unit itself left quite a bit to be desired. Ross has a gift for being able to visualize possibilities. Ross shared his vision with…
